Our Story

Mid Century Modern was founded in 1998. During one of my trips to Copenhagen to source 18th- and 19th-century country pine furniture, I came across a warehouse filled with Danish pieces from the 1950s to the 1970s. Known then as “vintage modern,” the collection caught my eye, and I decided to ship a few containers back to Australia.

With the market in Adelaide still small, I opened shops within antique centres in both Melbourne and Sydney. It wasn’t long before dealers from both cities were knocking on my door. Many of the biggest names in Scandinavian vintage design across the eastern capitals began buying wholesale from me before eventually making their own buying trips to Denmark.

After 25 years of sourcing in Scandinavia, I’ve built a strong network of friends and suppliers. This allows me to continue acquiring classic pieces, even as the supply chain has become increasingly competitive.
